I'm actually pleased as punch to hear you make that contention, Nathan. I love Haml, and as it gets faster I only love it more.

I want to contend the claim that Erubis is much faster than Haml. According to my latest benchmarks (Haml 2.2.16 vs. Erubis 2.6.5, using the Haml benchmark), Haml is about 7.6% slower than Erubis, using the :ugly option which is enabled by default in production. This will of course fluctuate somewhat depending on the code, but it should never reach the level of "much slower."
